China’s First ‘Zero Carbon’ R&D Building For Heat Pumps

China first ‘Zero Carbon’ R&D building for heat pump will top-out on May 9, 2024 and is expected to be put into use in October 2024.
It has a building area of 32,000 square meters, with a total of 19 laboratories dedicated to heat pump product development and performance testing. It includes:

 1000KW, 300KW, 150KW comprehensive testing lab,  600KW reliability testing lab,
 75KW,25KW Enthalpy Analytical labs,
 25KW noise lab,

 20-station long-term operation testing lab,
 snowfall simulation testing lab.
The 1000KW comprehensive testing laboratory can test the heat pump from -60°C to 55°C and conduct performance testing of 120°C high-temperature heat pumps.
All the energy demands of this building will be covered by façade BIPV, rooftop PV, and ESS. The heating and cooling are supplied by an air-source heat pump and ground-source heat pump combined with tank thermal energy storage(TTES). A smart monitor and control system is developed to achieve the ‘Zero Carbon’ goal.
